Adam. His name is Adam, like the first man. And just like him, Adam Datcu didn’t have it easy at all.

Now, after 40 years, he remembers how it all started.

“I was already working in the factory, and you know, during Communist times each factory had to have a band. Our factory had a band of harmonicas. They took me there and asked me to imitate some

RHYTHMS

Then they said: he’s good. You’re good, young man. We’re taking you for our band. You’ll play chord harmonica. But… I asked… what is the chord harmonica? And then the old guy who was conducting the band showed it to me. That’s it, young man. The biggest of all harmonicas.”

“When you play this harmonica is like a shot with a bear rifle. Or like you’re driving a truck. It’s big, it’s loud, it’s shiny. It fills the room with its power and its colours.”

After a lifetime in the factory, Adam Datcu is still working hard all day long. Now he’s employed by a catering company where he repairs heavy refrigerators.

Every now and then he has severe backpains, but he carries on: “These refrigerators… they couldn’t possibly be heavier than my harmonica… could they?”
